The first photograph (of which we have a record) was created by Joseph Nicephore Niepce in June or July of 1827. According to Wikipedia, the processing via which Niepce created the image, which he called "heliography," was, "a slow process which required perhaps some 8 hours of bright sunlight to affix the image; therefore it was used to photograph buildings and inanimate objects, but could not be used to photograph people." Stellas photography involves images primarily depicting people in both relaxed and unrelaxed poses. *A Virtual CD (VCD) means that all images from the VCD collection are available for download by the user. A physical CD containing the images is not available.
